About Us

"The San Francisco Young Democrats shall endeavor to stimulate in young people an active interest in governmental affairs, increase the efficiency of our government, maintain the viability of our free institutions, and contribute to the growth and influence of the ideals and philosophies of the Democratic Party."

The San Francisco Young Democrats (SFYD) reflects the under 35 year old segment of society made up of students, activists and young professionals that seek to promote and advance the ideals of the Democracy. Re-established in May 2001, we seek to bring diverse young Democrats from the Bay Area together as a force and voice for young people in local, state and national politics and policy.

In the 2003 and 2004 election cycles, SFYD proudly participated in efforts such as:

1) Voter registration: In the last year SFYD members have registered over 1,000 Democrats, 70% of whom were under the age of 35.

2) Issues forums/events: In May 2004, SFYD hosted a youth & violence issues forum. In the past we have discussed Health Care, San Francisco Schools, Politics and Media Consolidation, and local issues.

3) Campaign support: This year SFYD hosted speakers from the state and local Democratic Party, Boxer Campaign, and
Kerry Campaigns. In 2004 we co-hosted Debate Watch Parties, operated phone banks and walked door to door. We endorse locally as well, and recently sent out our first slate card to 20,000 young voters in San Francisco promoting our candidates and issues.

4) Meet elected officials: We regularly invite elected officals to speak at our meetings and events. Guests have included Supervisors Sean Elsbernd, Jake McGoldrick, Chris Daly, and Fiona Ma, Assembly Member Mark Leno, State Senator Jackie Speier, and First Lady Davis.

Our activities include a weekly happy hour, monthly meetings with guest with speakers and panels, volunteer efforts for the party and political campaigns, fundraising, community service, and social events. Most of our events are free of charge for members.

Please join us for our monthly meetings, which take place the second Wednesday of every month.
