January Meeting, 1/13

By - Last updated: Saturday, January 9, 2010

SFYD’s January meeting is going to be an interesting one.  We’ll have speakers from Local 2 and the Hotel Council on-hand to give us the shake on the ongoing dispute between workers and management.  With the huge rally and high profile arrests earlier this week, this is a timely issue that is sure to deliver a heated debate.

We’ll also be announcing SFYD’s meeting and event schedule through the June 8th election and some proposed new bylaws pertaining to our Issues and Action Committee.

What: Hotel labor dispute overview, election schedule announcement, bylaws update

When: Wednesday, 1/13 at 6:30 pm

Where: The Ambassador (Geary and Leavenworth).  Note that this is changed from our usual meeting spot, as there is a scheduling conflict at Mr. Smith’s.

Be there or be square.

SFYD’s Holiday Party on 12/10 at Aventine – Join us!!

By - Last updated: Wednesday, December 2, 2009

It’s that time of the year again, and SFYD is doing it right…

Please join us on Thursday, December 10th from 6 – 9 at Taverna Aventine.  They will be closing down the alley next door to give us a little extra room for our holiday celebration, turning the “Taverna” into a winter wonderland complete with Christmas Trees and places to lounge about. But what’s a holiday party without drink specials, a DJ, and a guy rolling handmade cigars?

SFYD is looking forward to benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco by providing toys (and smiles) for kids this holiday season. We’d love for you to be a part of this effort.

Suggested donation for current members is $5 which includes a raffle ticket. Alternatively, you’re encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy. Those wishing to renew their membership can do so for the reduced price of $25 ($5 of which will benefit BGCSF).

Light appetizers and a good time are complimentary of SFYD. Raffle prizes will be announced shortly.

Happy holidays all!

P.S. You can RSVP on Facebook.

Video from our California Constitutional Convention Panel

By - Last updated: Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Earlier this month we hosted “A New Era, A New Constitution: The Road to Reform in California”, a panel discussing the possibility of a new state constitution.  We were pleased to have some excellent representatives from several groups that have been active in the push for constitutional reform in our state:

Below please find Assemblywoman Ma’s opening remarks, and click through to see the rest of the discussion on YouTube.

A New Era, A New Constitution The Road to Reform in California

By - Last updated: Wednesday, October 14, 2009

The San Francisco Young Democrats & Citizen Hope will host a panel discussion with representatives from four organizations that are advancing initiatives which would effectively rewrite the California Constitution. The forum will be moderated by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (AD-12), the Majority Whip in the California State Legislature.

The discussion will address the differences between the varying initiatives, which reforms they each have on the table and if a Constitutional Convention is necessary to get California back on the road to prosperity. This event is being hosted in order to educate and engage the public about a fundamental problem currently plaguing the State and the effectiveness of our government.

What:

Panel discussion moderated by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma featuring CA Forward, the Courage Campaign, Repair California & the New America Foundation. This event is free to attend.

When:

Wednesday, October 14th
