Join SFYD at our annual Spring Awards on Thursday, April 18th for a night of drinks and dancing as we honor local community members and public advocates! Spring Awards is an annual opportunity for the San Francisco community to gather in recognition of remarkable leaders who inspire the members of our club and our larger community. This event is open to all! Please note that this is a 21 and over venue.

Sarah Souza
Community Advocate Award

Among Sarah’s many accomplishments, she is the current President of the San Francisco Latino Democratic Club, the first ever appointed Dreamer to join the San Francisco County Central Committee (SFDCCC), and a member of the San Francisco Eastern Neighborhoods Citizen Advisory Committee.

Sarah’s community work with organizations like the California Reinvestment Coalition, La Raza Community Resource Center, and the Mission Economic Development Agency, speak to Sarah's advocacy for not just her immediate community, but for communities everywhere without a voice. It’s bold leaders like Sarah who will train and be examples for future generations to come.

Gabriela López
Sergio Alva Rising Star Award

Gabriela was recently elected to San Francisco’s Board of Education and is the youngest woman ever elected to office in San Francisco. Her extraordinary grassroots campaign was able to deliver a victory in a crowded race featuring over 20 candidates.

An alum from UCLA with a Master’s in Education, Gabriela’s journey began with some amazing experiences including being a teacher’s assistant, arts instructor, bilingual classroom teacher, prison educator, and being a core member of Teachers 4 Social Justice. With her passion for students and her first-hand experience in the classroom, Gabriela strives to make education better for everyone.

Jeff Adachi
Youth Justice Award

The San Francisco Young Democrats would like to honor and remember this fierce warrior who stood for so many who could not. He stood for those without a voice, for those who the system had failed, and he stood for our youth in order to give them a brighter future.

Jeff helped create the MAGIC (Mobilization for Adolescent Growth In our Communities) initiative to address San Francisco communities plagued by poverty and violence. Its goal was simple yet ambitious; create safe neighborhood spaces and services in order to provide San Francisco youth and their families an opportunity to grow and avoid juvenile crime. To Jeff, everything was about potential, and nothing said that more than giving our youth a fighting chance.
